The Chicago 5K/15K was a star-studded day packed with inspiration. Perfect weather highlighted the inaugural Biggest Loser RunWalk Chicago on August 4, 2013, as thousands of runners and walkers from 44 different states hit the pavement in The Windy City. Scenic views of lake Michigan graced the course as participants sported their orange Biggest Loser RunWalk running shirts through 3.1 or 9.3 miles.
NBC’s Biggest Loser Trainer, Dolvett Quince, and many former contestants were present at the race cheering on runners and walkers alike. Season 14 winner of “The Biggest Loser,” Danni Allen, was on the start line microphone motivating participants as they crossed the finish line. Among the other names that were present included Season 14’s Francelina Morillo, Jeff Nichols, Jackson Carter, Pam Geil and Season 5’s Dan and Jackie Evans.
Quince, in normal Biggest Loser fashion, pushed people to finish strong at the finish line, high fiving and helping those who needed it.
“I’m in Chicago to support everyone here,” said Quince. “It’s all about inspiring people to keep moving and stay motivated.”
When asked what is your one piece of advice for the RunWalker’s, Quince stated, “Everyone should have a goal.” Every particpant had a goal in mind that day, many of crossing the finish line or completing their first 5K.
For one woman, it is reaching personal goals and helping others achieve theirs. Marge Lyse from Naperville, IL was one of 5 women featured in the People Magazine Half My Size Issue January 2012. In 2001 Lyse weighed 378 pounds, and needless to say, the scale was headed in the wrong direction.
Today, Marge is proud to report that she’s lost half her body weight and has had her story appear in People Magazine. Since the magazine, she has been seen on The NBC Today Show, Chicago Tribune, WGN, Windy City Live and NBC in Chicago.
To date, Lyse lost 212 lbs and is constantly fighting those last 5 or 10 lbs. She has not only kept the weight off but she has concentrated on building muscle and reducing her body of fat.
Lyse has run four Biggest Loser RunWalks this year and is inspiring people to follow in her direction.
The Biggest Loser RunWalk Chicago was one of her favorites. “It was beautiful weather and meeting the past contestants along with Dolvett was awesome,” said Lyse. This will be a memory she will keep close to her heart.
The former contestants and their old trainer and friend spent the day paying it forward, giving an extra pep in the steps of runners, walkers and everything in between.
